Lilliputs in a Giants World !!

Amidst the giants of the ELT world were three of our own department members. Ms. Shashwati Soumya and Ms. Misbah Ansari presented papers at the TESOL International Conference on "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" at Baramati held from 2nd to 4th December 2011 while Dr. Pragya Bajpai attended it with them. The title of Ms. Soumya 's paper was "Hearer's Interpretation v/s Speaker's Intent : Exploring Indirect Speech Acts". It aimed to explore the possibility of indirect speech acts that are not successful in communication. While Ms. Misbah Ansari 's paper explored the interference of the mother tongue in  her paper titled "Interference of Mother Tongue (L1) in Second Language Usage- A Study Through Contrastive Analysis". it was based on a study carried out with a group of intermediate students for whom English was a second language. The visit was a dream come true for the department members as they got an opportunity to interact with stalwarts like Prof. N Krishnaswamy.
