RESULTS !!

Each time a new semester begins there is a certain a apprehension in the air. Apprehension for the fruits that all your hard work of the previous semester will bear. The quesy stomach and bundled nerves are a phenomenon shared by all. Well, on 15th July a similar scenario prevailed over all the post graduate students as the results of M.A were declared. The Department congratulates all those who succeeded and all those who tried. And here are those who who've shone the brightest...

Wordsmiths' Nook

WORDSMITHS NOOK

Wordsmiths nook is a wallpaper put up by the students.  This gives the students an opportunity to showcase their creative talent.  The students get an opportunity to share thoughts, current news, jokes, college events, recipes on their wallpaper. The students editors ensure that quality is maintained and every student who wishes to contribute is given due space.

Interactive Workshop

 The Department conducted a workshop for teachers on Role and Purpose of Education on Saturday, 09.10.2010.

The Resource person for this workshop was Prof. Randhir Khare, Director & Mentor, Rewachand Bhojwani Academy. Prof. Khare, a creative writer and freelance columnist for the Times of India spoke at length on the challenges in the modern classroom and tried to define the role and purpose of education. He had a lively interaction with the teachers who shared their classroom experiences and problems. The workshop was attended by English teachers of the campus and students of M.A English.

There was a particular somberness in the afternoon from the word go. Occasion? A farewell for the students of M.A part two students.  
The party was held in the Assembly Hall on Tuesday, 12 April 2011.

For once the students had leave their brains behind and win solely on the basis of luck for there was a lucky draw and the tweaking of the  brain with a fun riddle contest that had everyone scratching their heads. The international students in the out going batch treated their class mates with taste of Iraqi culture as they swayed to their traditional music and danced.

LITT FEST 2010-2011

The Department of English conducts a major literary event called LITTFEST  every year. It is an eclectic mix of educational and fun filled activities based on language and literature. This event invites participation of students from all faculties. The department also organises Guest Lectures and conducts workshops and seminars.

Litt fest is like its name. Snazzy, short and a festival of literature, where students from across the faculties come to together to participate, contest, win, lose and in the process learn a lot. This year it was no different. Litt fest 2011 was inaugurated amidst excited minds on January 19, by  Prof Irfan Shaikh, Joint Secretary , M.C.E Society, who applauded the efforts of the Department of English for organizing this unique festival,   for today’s world where the importance of English is only growing.

“One minute to fame” and Spelling Bee were the two competitions of the day one followed by a screening of the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness”.

The King & The Queen
One minute to fame entailed students doing seemingly easy but yet difficult tasks in a minute. The students enthusiastically participated in this event. One winner from boys and girls was declared. The winners were Ms Malaika Fernandes of F.Y.B.A declared One Minute to fame Queen and Mr.Ilham Abdul Salam was declared King.

Spelling Bee
Spelling Bee spruced up the fast deteriorating spellings of the students in today’s world of the ‘Spell check’.

There was an elimination round which was a written test. The top ten progressed to the next round where the students were given challenging words to spell. The winners were Mr.Adnan Shaikh of S.Y.B.Sc (First), Ms.Swaleha Shaikh of S.Y.B.A(Second), Ms.Misbah Ansari of M.A-II(Third) and Mr.Ishaq Polan of S.Y.B.Sc (consolation)

Day two was packed with competitions, as the day began with the students submitting a movie review of the movie screened the previous day.

The winners of the Movie review writing were Mr.Ritshi Kanjilal of S.Y.B.Com(1st), Ms.Jamila Patanwala of M.A-II(2nd) and Ms.Misbah Ansari of M.A-II (3rd)

Poetry Reading/Recitation Contest
The students had the audience and the judges listening in rapt attention as they read out one poem after another in the poetry recitation competition. What was applauded by the judges was that many students  read out their own works thereby fulfilling one of the primary aims of Litt fest i.e bringing out the creative you.
The contest was judged by amateur published poets Mr Javits and Ms Smitha who appreciated the efforts put in by the students. The winners were: Ms. Jovia D’Souza of F.Y.B.A (1ST), Mr.Ritshi Kanjilal of S.Y.B.Com (2nd), Ms. Tenzin Tselha of M.A-II (3rd) and Ms.Fatema Kagalwala of F.Y.B.A (consolation).
In Pictionary, the five groups battled it out to depict the right words. The students were highly enthused in this game. There was keen competition and the winners were Ms. Misbah Ansari and group (Ritshi, Faye, Ummesalma, Niloufer, Tenzin, Zulekha & Mustafa). The runners up were Farheen Siddique and group (Firdous, Sadia, Jovia, Jamila, Omidullah, Aziz-ur-Rehman)

Speak Your Mind

“Speak your mind” was a new entrant and proved to be a runaway hit, as the Principal Dr. E.M. Khan, recommended it becoming a regular activity throughout the academic year.  The participants were all given impromptu topics and given a minute to speak on them.
The winners were Ms.Misbah Ansari of M.A-II (1st), Mr. Arman Rahmutullah of T.Y.B.A (2nd), Mr. Ishaq Polan of S.Y.B.Sc (3rd) and Ms. Malaika Fernandes of F.Y.B.A (consolation).

The concluding day of this years’ Litt Fest began with the scrabble marathon where the sixteen teams gave each other a run for their words in their bid to become winners. The winners were: Adnan Shaikh and Ishaq Polan (1st), Fatema Kagalwala & Rubina Khatoon (2nd) ,  Jamila Patanwala &Farzeen Khan (3rd ).

With the Litt Quiz, that followed, it truly became a battle of knowledge and brains as the five teams locked their horns to fight for the top spot.
The winners for this closely contested event were: Ritshi Kanjilal & Group (1st), Misbah Ansari & Group (2nd).

Essay writing Competition
The students were given a list of topics on current affairs to write on in the Essay writing competition. The entries received were quite creative. The winners were: Ms. Jovia D’souza (1st), Ms.Misbah Ansari (2nd), Ms. Farheen Siddique(3rd), Ms Bushra Thakur (consolation) and Mr. Ishaq Polan (consolation)

Dramatrix- the drama competition
‘Dramatrix’ proved to be perfect finale for the exciting three days of competition as three teams competed with their renditions of some excellent plays.

The Posters on Display
The poster competition had ‘Book to Film’ as its theme. Students participated in large numbers and a variety of posters were creatively used. The winners were:
Ms. Bitania Zenebe (1st), Mr.Ritshi Kanjilal (2nd), Ms.Jamila Patanwala (3rd) and Ms. Jovia D’souza (consolation).
Valedictory Programme & Prize Distribution
As the curtains drew to a close, it was time for the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony where Mrs. Yogini Brahmankar, Director, Apex Placements was the invited chief guest. Top classics and some modern day best sellers were given away as prizes as the room filled with applause for the winners.

Mr. Ritshi Kanjilal from S.Y.BCom was given a special appreciation for being a close contender for Littwhiz and active participant in Littfest.
