BOOK READING CLUB
Reading as hobby is fast losing its charm in today’s
e-world. To inculcate love for these treasured classics and to develop in
students a sustained reading habit, Dr. Munira Lokhandwala, has initiated a
Book Club with the students of T.Y.B.A wherein students read a book of their
choice and share their views about it with their classmates. Since most of the
students lacked skills for undertaking such vast reading, the class began with
short stories beginning with the bestselling Chicken Soup Series in the
inaugural session on 15th September. The class selected stories that
had affected them the most and shared it with the class thereby proving to be a
source of encouragement for the others to follow suit.

ORATORY
COURSE
The Department of English as per the suggestion of
Mr. P.A. Inamdar, President, M.C. E. Society had recommended that the Oratory
Skills of academically bright students from Anglo Urdu Girls’ High School and
Anglo Urdu Boy’s High School need to be worked upon. The Department of English
therefore designed a syllabus that specifically included only Speaking and
Listening skills in order to enhance their speaking capacities. The course
attempted to gradually improve the student’s confidence by primarily helping
them speak out and then by encouraging them to perform role plays. Though,
initially the exercise was only at the basic level, however as the course
progressed the instructors upped the level of the exercises to an intermediate
level.
The interest of the students was continually engaged
through involving them in vocabulary games like Pictionary and Scrabble and
needless to say these were the most popular ones with students requesting for
more. The course without the strict confines of an examination led many
students to shed their inhibitions and at least attempt to speak in front of an
audience, a task they greatly resisted earlier.
The test conducted towards the end of the session
gave us satisfactory results exhibiting an improvement from their performance
when they had started the course in December. The sessions were conducted
thrice a week from the month of December and ended with a test conducted
towards the end of the course.
The
course also proved to be beneficial in giving our final year students hands on
experience in teaching as Ms. Jovia D’souza , Ms. Ummesalma Rangwala, Ms. Misbah Sayyed,
Ms. Malaika Fernandes and Ms. Tasha Patel conducted the sessions.
