The F.Y.B.A. notched up their first academic activity of the year with an exciting spelling bee on August 11. Organized by Prof. Misbah Ansari, the competition had the students chewing their pens in intense concentration for getting the fifteen words of the written elimination round right. Following which, the students who had scored more than six qualified for the next round where they spelled a word each to progress to the next round. A lot of favourites fell out here and there remained all but five. What followed next was a fiercely fought competition for the top three positions. Ms. Fatema Dhuliawala took home the first prize and the next two runners up under went a slew of rounds to grab these positions it was Ms. Feeba John who was the first runner up and Ms. Yvonne Paul who was the second runner up. A word of appreciation for Ms. Rupali Sonawane and Ms. Anjum Ansari for fighting it out till the very end. Judged by Prof. Heena Talikoti, the competition thus, proved to be a good get away from the mundane academics.

Budding Poets

The F.Y. B.Com (girls),  classroom was abuzz with a general wave of recitation on August 9. A poetry recitation competition had been organized by Dr. Pragya Bajpai and the girls were all excited to prove their mettle. Judged by Prof. Shashwati Soumya,  it was a resounding success, and the competition intense. The students were judged on the following criteria: choice of poem, diction, and over all expressions. After a poetic and nail biting finish it was Ms. Malvika Prasad who won the first prize followed by Ms .Farida. M. Khambaty who was the first runner up, followed very closely by a tie for the second runner up position by Ms. Afrin Kusur and Ms. Afreen.S. Siddiqui.

Spelling Buzz

Get Set Go!!



The second year BSc classroom was a buzz with a host of wannabe spelling bees. The second of August dawned with a spelling bee competition that was organized by  Prof.  Shashwati Soumya, led to whole lot of excitement and nerves. A written elimination round was held in which the students  spelled a whole lot of everyday words. Students who scored more than six qualified for the next round amidst a lot of cheering by their enthusiastic class mates.

And then followed three rounds of excitement in which the participants tried to spell their words right and thereby move on to the next round. But ultimately it was Ms. Sukreena D'souza who took the first position, Ms. Shrreyanka Naik who secured the first runner up position and Ms. Fehmina Gaibee who came a close second runner up.

A word of appreciation about the following students who spelled most of the audience round words correctly Ms. Priyanka Pradhan,  Samar Rana,  Mr. Sachin Shetty, Mr Ikram Pathan,  and finally Mr. Rameez Tamboli . The competition which was judged by  Prof. Misbah Ansari proved to be a mix of excitement, nerves, winning and the victorious.

Spinning Stories

The first year B.A. (boys) began their calender of class activities with a story reading competition organized on the 30th July, 2011. Organized by Ms Heena Talikoti ,the competition had the students speaking on a variety of topics with great enthusiasm. the foreign students brought forth a taste of their culture with their renditions. Judged by Ms. Misbah Ansari,  the competition proved to be cliff hanger as there were a lot of students vying for the top two positions.Mr. Aijaz Ansari however took home the prize for rendering a story in his own words with great confidence. While it was Sayyed Malla Sadaf, who won the first prize in the foreign student section. There was a tie for the second position between  Mr. Avez Khan and  Mr. Shaikh Ali while Ahmad Shabbir Shafi took the second position in the foreign student second.  It truly was a morning of nerves, stories, and ultimately victory.
